About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1700 – I Love Photographers. :)

Yesterday, I had the joy of having a cup of joe and several sweet treats with two amazing photographers, Kat Forder and Robin Shotola. We sat for hours and hours just chatting about business, life and sweets! I mean, you couldn’t help it at the amazing bakery we went to! MMMMM.

If you’re a photographer, especially one who works full time from home, meeting with other photographers is SO important! When I first started, I thought other photographers were just competition and nothing else. I stayed away from networking for a long time because of that. But the more I’ve gotten to know other photographers, the more I realized there is work to go around…I mean, it’s still a super tough market, don’t get me wrong…but I feel like it has helped my career over and over again having these friendships. I’ve also seen that the most successful photographers are the ones who are the most willing to share.

Thank you Robin and Kat for a very lovely time!! πŸ™‚

And what Jen blog post would be complete without a fun sign and a picture of my treats?

Day 1697 – Why Do I Blog Every Day And What’s The Deal With The Day?

Have you been reading my blog for a while but not sure why I note every day? Ever wonder why I blog every day?

I figured now was a great time to give y’all a refresher!

I am a wedding photographer.

I love it. Dearly.

But I believe that the real journey begins after the wedding is over. I want to continue sharing the joys and sorrows of marriage with my clients, friends and family. To that end, I take a picture of my wedding rings or something that captures what that day has meant to my marriage, what I learned, etc.

One of the core beliefs of our wedding photography business is a close relationship with each couple. We strive to be good friends after the wedding and we try to encourage them in their marriage. I had an idea in the spring of 2011, to take a picture with all of our rings, the bride, the groom, Bret and myself. Photographically saying, “we support your marriage.”

We are especially grateful for the clients who refer us to their friends. We had the joy of photographing 3 weddings from a group of friends (the Astaritas, the Fredericks and the Tiltons). The Tiltons were married last and at their wedding, we took a picture of all three couples and us. The Fredericks have a print of this on their wall. It has become one of the most meaningful pictures I have taken.

I hope that my journey through marriage will give you joy. That you’ll have a few laughs. Maybe a few tears. And ultimately, see how much I love my husband. So, come take a journey with me!
