About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 2095 – Adult Easter Egg Hunts Are Awesome!

On Saturday we attended an annual Easter party with our friends (and previous clients). One of the things they do is have an egg hunt for everyone! Each of us brings a basket full of goodies and sometimes gift cards! This year we scored pretty well! We won a few gift cards, a diamond candle and some lovely flowers!

Day 2093 – My Stats Are Booming!! – Wait….

I get notifications about my blog when I get comments, likes or have “booming stats.” A few days back, I got the “Your stats are booming!” notification. I’m always excited about that! But a few times in the past, I’ve found out that Bret is catching up on the blog. I thought MAYBE this time wasn’t him, because I’ve been trying to get more reads/likes/follows/etc by using hashtags and all that jazz. I had gotten a few new readers on that particular day…but then I mentioned it to Bret…hey, you didn’t read a lot of the blog on this day, did you? And he, rather sheepishly, responded, yes. *sigh* Ah well, one day my stats will be booming and it won’t be from Bret! lol, maybe…

Day 2091 – The Power Of The Written Word

The past few days I’ve been doing some spring cleaning of my folders. I FINALLY went through about 4 boxes of papers that needed filing and shredding. All that’s left is burning and recycling a few bags. In my search, I found a letter I had written to Bret while he was in Iraq. I read it again and was surprised to see that something I was struggling with back then (nearly 8 years ago), is something that I struggle with now – trusting that God will bring about the best for us. We’re walking through some things right now that are causing me to not trust that God has it under control. I keep asking God about it…are you sure? Are you sure? What do I do? But reading the letter reminded me that I will more than likely struggle with this the rest of my life. The situations will change, so it will feel like a new struggle, but the heart will stay the same – do I trust God?

It reminded me how important it is to write things down. If you want to experience growth, journaling, writing letters, blogging, whatever, is so helpful. Being able to see what you thought and were going through in the past can show you areas where you need to grow as well as showing you areas where you’ve grown by leaps and bounds.

What about you? What methods do you use to leave a legacy of your life? Do you journal? Do you blog? I’d love to know!
