About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 2841 – My 100th Book Read In 2017!

Last night, I finished I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh. It was the 100th book I’ve read this year. There are a few reading challenges I started this year, but I’ve lazily let them slide and have only been reading what’s on my To Be Read List and whatever catches my eye at the library. I’m sure I’ll get back to them because there are great things on the various lists.

Before you think I don’t have a life, here’s some numbers of the books I’ve read so far this year:
22 are full/chapter books.
3 of those 22 were shorter children’s chapter books, but long enough that I felt justified in calling them a full book.
1 of those 22 was a book of Liz Climo cartoons.
78 of the 100 were children’s books.
100 total books…but maybe we say I read 22?

What do you think? Should I say I’ve read 100 books or 22?

Day 2839 – Poetry And The Creative Mind Day

Today is Poetry And The Creative Mind Day! In honor of that, here is a poem I wrote shortly after meeting Bret.

I fear dreaming
funny for me
yet you stay
with open arms
and at the
end of the day
my mind
goes not
to how
great we are
but how
amazingly great
and good
our Father is
in every joke
he laughs with us
every tear
caught in his hands
it feels different
it feels new
yet old as time
you keep me
on the glorious page
God has us on
I burst at the seams
to know our future
to have the guarantee
repeat it again
and again
that it’s
all under control
you know I’ll forget
it just gets
better and better
the more real
we are

Day 2838 – Why We Moved

We moved for a few reasons. To save money, to give me more access to the car, but especially because of the close proximity to Bret’s job. For fun, we set a timer to see how long the drive actually was when I dropped Bret off this morning.

Because of how we parked, we had to take a longer way. There were a number of buses, but thankfully we missed the school bus pickup in the neighborhood. I could have gotten back sooner if I didn’t catch the light at the school. Silly me, thinking I could. It’s a no turn on red light, so I had to sit through a whole rotation.

Total drive – door to door to door – 11:44
Total drive there – 7:33
Total drive home – 4:10

It could have taken only 3 minutes to drive home! Ah! Never fear readers, we will work on shaving this time down!

Day 2837 – Planning A Road Trip

I have to say, writing a book about planning a road trip on any budget is really, really fun! This morning I added in a sample trip from Maine to California and I have to say, I HAVE to get back on the road again soon! I love road trips so so much. When I talk to people about our road trips, so many make comments like “I’ve always wanted to do that!” But they don’t take the necessary steps to actually take the trip. The biggest reason I’m writing this book next is so that others can take their own epic road trips. I even have a budget for under $500! It is possible to take these trips for less than you think.
