I’m in the process of deleting my Facebook account, and I have to say, when I saw this “fun day” pop up, I thought it was a perfect time to talk about why I’m deleting it and how hard it’s been to actually do it.
So why delete Facebook? One of the biggest things for me is the emotional drain. Even having a tightly curated “close friends” feed, where I only have folks that share good things and that I want to keep up with, unfollowing anyone who shares ignorant, angry, or negative post, and blocking it on my phone, I still get pulled into looking at the full feed and seeing posts that just don’t help me as a person.
Facebook became an important part of marketing in my different businesses and for a long time, I couldn’t justify leaving. Until a few weeks ago, when I realized that I didn’t HAVE to be on there anymore because of what I’m working on now.
I have also realized just how much of my life has revolved around Facebook, from the many accounts that were set up using the “sign in with Facebook,” to keeping in touch with people, to saving things to look at later. I have like 10+ tasks to complete in my Asana reminder. Things like making sure there is an admin for Facebook groups and pages I manage, to saving things I need.
The thing I’m most looking forward to after I delete Facebook and stop posting on this blog? Actually consuming content without feeling like I’m so far behind in my own creation. I’m also looking forward to finally writing books again.
Have you deleted your Facebook? Do you think I’m crazy to do it?
