Day 3428 – Question For My Readers

Hey there folks. I’m writing a little early today because I’m working out of the “office” all day. I was struggling to find something to write about, so I wanted to turn the tables and ask YOU, what do you like to read here? What keeps you coming back? Let me know in the comments below.

Day 3426 – Yesterday Should Have Been An Anniversary

If I was still photographing weddings, yesterday would have been my 14th anniversary. It’s crazy to think I photographed my first wedding over a decade ago. It’s also crazy how much my life has changed since then.

The whole thing, paired with other things I’ve gone through over the last fourteen years, has made me realize that having a plan for your life is good, but holding tight to a plan isn’t always good. I think one of the best parts about life is how much it changes and sometimes turns out even better than you could imagine, I know mine has.

So if you’re thinking about things you “should be doing,” “should have done,” or “wish you had done,” I want to remind you to not get too caught up in the “should haves,” but embrace the “ares.”

Day 3424 – Trying To Live A Low Social Media Life

Over the last few days, I was pretty much off the grid. I had my blog posts scheduled, my Facebook group posts scheduled, and no reason to get on social media. It was some of the most restful and relaxed days I’ve had in a long time.

It has me thinking about how much I’m on social media and how going on really does change how my day is going, mostly for the worst. Since I’ve been “back on the grid” I’ve found myself automatically starting to go to Facebook during a lull in work. Oh how quickly we fall back into our habits.

Thankfully, I’ve stopped myself almost every time. So, I think I’m going to try and limit myself to getting on once a day. Maybe scheduling posts as well.

Have you ever tried to limit your social media intake? Was it a hard transition?

Day 3423 – Why I’m Thankful For Long Distance Relationships – repost

I had originally planned to post about Junk Food Day, I mean how fun is that? But as I scrolled through On This Day on Facebook, my status from 10 years ago, was “Missing him….” That him was Bret, and he had been deployed overseas for about a month. We had only recently started officially dating. Bret was only deployed for a little over half a year, but he lived in California, and I lived in Maryland. By the time we got married two and a half years after we met, we had only spent roughly four months in the same time zone….and three of those months were when he moved to Maryland a few months before the wedding.

I forget that such a large chunk of our relationship was long distance. It was our normal – saying hello and saying goodbye at the airport, long phone calls, big phone bills, and lots of sleepless nights from talking late.

But I can point to that time as one of the biggest reasons we have the great marriage we have now. Being that far apart forced us to ONLY have communication. It caused us to be honest with each other, I mean, why not be honest with that much distance between you? During those hours and hours of conversations, we talked about everything. During those hours, we developed a deep friendship, which is one of the core pieces of our marriage.

While long distance relationships aren’t for everyone, I sure am glad that I had one. 🙂

This is a photo of Bret from his first visit to meet my family in 2007.
